A brief profile of the Partners is as under:

A. M. HAIDERMOTA, born 1931, is a Barrister-at-Law and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, admitted in 1964 (High Court, admitted, 1956). He was called to the Bar of England & Wales from Lincoln's Inn in 1955 and is a B.A. (Honours) graduate of St. Xavier's College, Calcutta University. In the past he has held posts as District Governor of Lions International, District 305 E and Professor at S.M. Law College in Karachi. He is the Managing Partner of the Firm.

KAZIM HASAN, born 1951, is a Barrister-at-Law and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, admitted in 1993 (High Court, admitted, 1979). He was called to the Bar of England & Wales from Middle Temple in 1978 and is a Law Tripos graduate from St. John's College, Cambridge University, graduating in 1975. In the past he has worked at Sidley & Austin, London, 1977 and Rodinet & Hogan (Attorneys), Cannes, France, 1978. He heads the litigation department at the Firm

KHOZEM A. HAIDERMOTA, born 1962, is an Attorney-at-Law admitted to the New York State Bar in 1989 and an Advocate of the Sindh High Court at Karachi, admitted in 1994. He completed a Juris Doctor/ M.Sc. in Foreign Service (an accelerated joint degree program) from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. in May 1988 with an Honours concentration in International Business Diplomacy at the Landegger Program at Georgetown. He also graduated Cum Laude with a B.Sc. Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in May 1984 with a concentration in finance. He was a corporate associate at Carter, Ledyard and Milburn, Wall Street, New York from February 1989 to May 1992 and in the summers of 1986 and 1987.

M. UMAR SHEREEF, born 1973, is an Advocate of the High Court. He has a Master of Laws from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London with a specialisation in Commercial and Maritime Law and a Bachelor of Laws from SOAS, University of London. He was an Associate at Cornelius, Lane & Mufti, Lahore from August 1997 to April 2000 and Senior Advisor to the Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Privatisation and Investment, Privatisation Division from April 2000 to April 2004. He heads the Lahore office of the Firm.

MOHAMMAD ANWER, born 1968, is an Advocate of the High Court, admitted in 2000. He completed an LL.M. from the University of Karachi in 1997 and his LL.B. from Sindh Law College in 1988. He was a Grade 17 officer in the High Court of Sindh from May 1991 to December 1996. He is based in the Karachi office and specializes in advising on real estate (including issues in acquisition by foreign nationals); financing transactions (particularly financial restructuring involving intercreditor issues and reorganization of security structure); mergers/demergers, acquisitions and divestment of shareholding (mainly banks/financial institutions); and shareholder related matters.

ALI ASGHER KHAN,
    born 1980, is an Advocate of the High Court. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the College of Law (England) and was called to the Bar of England & Wales (Lincoln’s Inn). Prior to joining Haidermota & Co., Ali Khan worked as an investment banker in the power and energy groups at Goldman Sachs & Co. and Deutsche Bank in New York and was part of the global restructuring team at AES Corporation in Arlington (U.S.A.). He is presently a partner at the Lahore office, specialising in energy sector projects.

ALI AKBER VASI, born 1976, is an accountant turned lawyer and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (2002) and qualified the CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK) examinations in 2005. He has also completed his B.Com and LL.B from the University of Karachi. Prior to joining the Firm, he worked with A.F. Ferguson & Co. (a member firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers) from 1998 till 2004 in the fields of audit, taxation, corporate and financial restructuring. He specialises in corporate, banking and restructuring of companies (including acquisitions and mergers).

SHABBIR HARIANAWALA, born 1982, is a Barrister-at-Law. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Lincolns Inn) and has a LLB (Hons) from University of Warwick, UK. He is based in the Karachi office and specializes in advising on local/cross-border M&A, joint ventures, private equity, structured/project financings involving onshore & offshore finance companies / multi-lateral lending agencies, and general corporate advisory work inter alia relating to capital markets, corporate/commercial and banking & finance matters.

Tariq Nasir Zufar, born 1982, completed his LL.B. (Hons) from University of London in 2006. Prior to joining Haidermota & Co., he worked at Minto & Mirza, Advocates and Solicitors where he specialized in securities law and banking and finance. As Partner at the Lahore Office, his main areas of expertise are Project Financing, Islamic Financing, Banking and Finance, Cross Border Transactions, Restructuring and Acquisitions. Tariq is involved in most of the thermal power projects (both Gas and Oil based) in Pakistan, various wind power projects and fertilizer projects specifically dealing with Equipment, Procurement and Construction Contracts, Fuel Supply Agreements, Energy/Power Purchase Agreement, Concession Agreements and Financing Documents. His pioneering work in Islamic Project Finance has become the market standard. He has been involved in the restructuring and financing of four power projects being set up/refurbished by KESC and played an instrumental role in advising lenders to the first defaulting IPP, which included instituting proceeding, negotiating standstill arrangements and restructuring loans of the defaulting IPP. He is currently extensively involved in the first biomass power project being setup in Pakistan.
